Coriander (Coriandrum sativum)

A commonly used culinary spice in Indian dishes. Coriander is primarily bitter and pungent and acts as a carminative. It is useful for people experiencing stomach upset, indigestion, and gas. The pungent component and the carminative effects of coriander are suitable for Kapha.

The coriander leaf is cilantro, and has a more bitter and astringent taste. Cilantro is cooling and enhances digestion without disrupting Pitta.

Ways to use coriander:
1. Drink coriander + cumin decoction which will reduce body heat, fever, helps urination in case of less urine.
2. Wash eyes with coriander seeds decoction (when cools to room temperature). This soothes irritation of the eyes.
3. Drink coriander seed decoction sip by sip every one hour in case of heavy menstrual flow which will prevent anemia.
