Spicy Radish Dish with Coconut

Radish is commonly used in East, South East, and South Asian cuisines. Radish is known for its pungent and peppery taste and is heating for the body which can pacify Kapha and Vata body types. Radish is also a root vegetable which is grounding in nature. Radish is also known to contain healthy amounts of Vitamin C, Folate, Vitamin B-6, Potassium, & Manganese.

Try this tasty & spicy radish with coconut dish on a cold winter’s day.


Radish – 1 lb.
Grated coconut- 1 cup
Red chilies- 5-7 depending on spice level
Onion- 1 medium size
Salt- for taste
Coriander seeds- 1 TBS
Jaggery- 1 TBS
Tamarind- 1 tsp of concentrate
Turmeric- 1/2 tsp


  1. Chop onion & make one inch sized cubes of radish.
  2. Roast coriander seeds, turmeric & red chilies in oil.
  3. Blend grated coconut, red chilies, turmeric & tamarind.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onion & roast it or stir fry for few minutes.
  5. Add the cut radish & close the pan with a lid & let it cook for five minutes.
  6. Add salt, jiggery & masala & cook it for 4-5minutes.
  7. This recipe is good to have with rotis, bhakari or curd rice.
  8. You can substitute radish with  any other root vegetable.
